Dhaka – A sedition complaint was lodged against acting Daily Amar Desh Editor Mahmudur Rahman for his alleged offensive remarks about the country’s independence, sovereignty and its people.Advocate Shamsur Rahman Parvez, law affairs secretary of Awami League’s Khansama upazila unit, filed the complaint with Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court in the afternoon.Judge Biswanath Mondal asked the officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station to submit a report by December 28 in this regard after investigation.On December 1, Mahmudur Rahman at a programme at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital alleged that Bangladesh is not an independent country as it has no sovereignty although it has land and population.“Bangladesh is now ‘a colony of India’. According to the political science, Bangladesh can’t be considered as a state. Sheikh Mujib had killed country’s democracy and independence of mass media and buried it,” he had said.UNB news agency
