A scientific session on “Management of diabetes in hospital; non critical care setting” held recently at the conference room of Impulse Hospital. Dr A Hasnat Shaheen, consultant, Diabetes and Endocrinology Department of Impulse Hospital was the speaker of the session. He discussed different important aspects of management of diabetes in the hospital.
Dr. A Hasnat Shaheen said, recognition and diagnosis of diabetes in all hospital admitted patient is very much important, as diabetes is related to high mortality and morbidity in the hospital. He also emphasized the bed side regular monitoring of blood glucose by a standard glucometer device and medical nutrition therapy for achieving the glycemic goal in hospitalized patient. “Insulin therapy is preferable over oral anti-diabetic drugs especially on hospital admitted patient”, also included on his discussion.
