Shibir leader killed in Satkhira ‘clash with police’


A leader of Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS) was killed and at least 10 people were injured during a clash with police in Satkhira town on Sunday.
Police said the activists of the student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami shot at the law enforcers and exploded crude bombs during the clash at Kamalnagar in the district town.
Police recovered two firearms from the scene. The deceased was identified as Aminul Islam, 32, General Secretary of Satkhira town unit of Shibir. He is the son of Mofiz Sarder of Raghunathpur village of Kaliganj Upazila in the district.Those who received bullet-hit wounds are Nur Mohammad of Jhaudanga village of the Sadar Upazila, Abdur Sabur of Khaliskhali village of Tala Upazila, Imran Hossain of Shyamnagar Upazila, Akther Hossain of Khulna city, Azizul Islam and Abu Taleb of Fultala Upazila in Khulna district.
OC of Satkhira Sadar Police Station Enamul Haque told that being tipped off that a group of Shibir men was holding a clandestine meeting at a house in Kamalnagar graveyard area in a bid to carry out anarchy, a police team raided the house in the afternoon.
The Shibir men exploded some 20 crude bombs and opened fire on them triggering a gunfight with police.
Four police constables were injured while seven Shibir activists received bullet wounds in the gunfight.
The injured were admitted to Satkhira Sadar Hospital where Aminul died while undergoing treatment.
The injured police constables – Abdur Rahman, Jahangir Hossain, Nurul Islam and Zillur Rahman – were given primary aid. –
