The “Ocean Probe” with 85 cargo-laden containers today left Chittagong Port for transshipment to India. As neighbouring India recently got the transshipment facility, foreign container-vessel “MV Iravati Star” anchored at jetty number 13 of Chittagong Port on June 2 for reshipment of the cargoes to Indian ports.Container vessel MV Iravati Star which sailed from Lam Chabang of Thailand with 250 containers arrived at Chittagong port via Ho Chi Min port of Vietnam, Singapore, Port Kelung of Malaysia and Myanmar. The vessel unloaded 92 cargo-laden containers at the Chittagong port the next day and left for Haldia port of Kolkata. The “Ocean Probe” with 85 cargo-laden containers out of 92, left the Chittagong Port around 10am today for re-shipping the containers to Chennai and Novosheba ports of India, port officials said adding that the rest seven containers would later be sent to Kochin port of India by another ship.Khairul Islam, General Manager of the MV Iravati Star’s local agent ‘Uni-Bengal’, said the “Ocean Probe” will anchor at Colombo port of Sri Lanka on June 19, from where the containers will be sent to Chennai and Novosheba ports of India by two vessels. As there is no provision of direct shipment to those Indian ports from Myanmar, India has been seeking transit and transshipment facilities to take home their imported cargos through Chittagong port. -BSS, Chittagong
