‘Shots fired’ at US Istanbul consulate

Two gunmen have opened fire outside the US consulate in Istanbul and fled when police shot back, reports say.

No-one is reported to have been hurt. The attack comes hours after a bomb attack on a police station in Istanbul in which at least seven were injured, including five police officers.

The attacks come at a time of increased tension between Turkey and rebels of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), and also at a time when Turkey is taking a more active role against Islamic State. – BBC News
