Social networks will be opened after getting law enforcers’ green signal

State Minister for ICT Zunaid Ahmed Palak has said the temporary ban on social networking site Facebook and online messaging and calling services WhatsApp and Viber will be withdrawn after getting the green signal from law-enforcing agencies.“The temporary ban on Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp and Viber has been imposed for national security,” said the state minister for ICT on Saturday at the Sylhet Government Murari Chand College (MC College) campus after inauguration of free Wifi service of Robi Axiata Limited.

“As the number of social media users is increasing day by day, the risk is also increasing. To control risks while running internet and misuse of Facebook, we will make ‘Digital Security Law’ soon,” said the state minister.

Earlier on November 18, the government blocked Facebook, WhatsApp and other social networks after the Supreme Court upheld the death penalty to war criminals Salauddin Quader Chowdhury and Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid.

Professor Nitai Chandra, principal of the college presided over the inauguration programme of the Wifi service.
