SP’s wife killers won’t be spared: PM

Madinah – Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has warned that the culprits behind the killing of the wife of a police officer in Chittagong will not be spared as her government will never tolerate terrorism, Unb news agency reported.
“This is very regrettable as the wife of a police officer has been killed though she had no offence…those who are committing such offences will be hunted down and brought to justice,” she said on Monday evening.
Sheikh Hasina expressed her firm stance while exchanging views with expatriate Bangladeshis at Madina Hilton where she has been staying during her last leg of five-day official tour of Saudi Arabia.Hasina said she does not want such heinous incidents to take place in Bangladesh, though some isolated incidents are taking place.
She alleged that those who had earlier engaged in arson attacks in buses, trains, trucks and launches, and thus burned people to deaths are now engaged in secret killings.
The Prime Minister alleged that the police officer’s wife was killed when she went outside home to drop his son for his school bus. “I could say it clearly that those who are behind such incidents would be tracked down, Insha Allah…they won’t be spared.”
Earlier on Sunday, assailants riding a motorbike stabbed and shot dead the wife of a police officer in Chittagong city. The victim, Mahmuda Khanam Mitu, 32, wife of Babul Akhter, superintendent of police of Dhaka police headquarters.
Referring to the announcement of a Tk 3,40,605 crore national budget in parliament for the FY17, Hasina said that no government in the past could deliver such a big budget.
About the country’s continuous economic progress, she said during her meetings with the heads of government and states in Bulgaria on the sidelines of the Global Women Leader’s Forum, the global leaders there termed Bangladesh’s economic progress a ‘magic’.
“But, I would say it sincerity as we’ve passion and love for the people of the country and always work for the welfare of people, for which we could deliver….no other party except Awami League could work for the welfare of people,” she added.
