Police authorities has given permission to Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, workers front of BNP, to hold its discussion meeting at Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) at Kakrail to mark the May Day on Friday afternoon.
Sramik Dal had sought permission of Dhaka Metropolitan Police first to hold a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan to hold a public meeting to mark the May Day but police did not allow them to use it as a venue for meeting. Khaleda Zia was scheduled to address the planned meeting as the chief guest.
Later, they applied for holding a discussion meeting at the IDEB and police gave them permission on some conditions.
“We have just received police permission to hold discussion meeting at IDEB to mark the May Day. We will off course hold the meeting accordingly,” said Sramik Dal President Anwar Hossain.
He said they would also bring out a procession from the party office at Naya Paltan in the morning and it would end in front of the Press Club.
When contacted Deputy Commissioner (Media) Jahangir Alam told Journalists also confirmed that he came to know that the Sramik Dal was given permission to hold a May Day discussion at IDEB in the capital on some conditions.
“Police did not give them permission to hold public meeting Suhrawardy Udyan considering the law and order issue as several groups had sought permission to use it as venue,” he said. – Staff eporter
