Sri Lanka beat Malaysia 2-1 in Bangabandhu Gold Cup


Sri Lanka shrugged off their previous match defeat as they beat Malaysia by 2-1 goals in the group A match of the Bangabandhu Gold Cup International Football tournament held on Friday at the Bangabandhu National Stadium here.The victory of Sri Lanka lead Bangladesh towards the semi finals with Nepal from the group A while Malaysia finished at the bottom with two points.The Islanders took the lead in the 19th minute through Bandra who placed the ball home after receiving a cut back from Niresh. Malaysian forward Bobby Gonzalez must consider him as unlucky as his fierce shot on a cross of G Devasagayam returned to play after hitting the crosspiece in the 36th minute.Sanjeewa blasted home from a close range scored the second goal for Sri Lankan in the 63rd minute as midfielder Chalana Chameera stormed past the Malaysian defense and pushed a forward pass to Sanjeewa, who made no mistake to send the ball home from the near post.Malaysia however able to pulled one back through Nor Fazli Alias with a brillinat header from close range off a cross from Muhammad Hadin Zaman in the 82nd minute.
