Submit probe report over Gulshan attack by Aug 24: Court

Dhaka – A Dhaka court on Wednesday asked police to submit by August 24 the investigation report it in connection with the Gulshan café attack that left 22 people killed apart from six attackers.Metropolitan Magistrate Snigdha Rani Chakrabarty passed the order after police placed the FIR of a case filed in connection with the gruesome attack to the court, said Farid Miah, sub-inspector of general recording office of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
The case was filed with Gulshan Police Station on Monday night in connection with the gruesome attack on the Holey Artisan Bakery and O’Kitchen in the city’s Gulshan area on Friday night.
Seven gunmen stormed the Spanish restaurant while firing and took around 40 people, including restaurant staff and guests — both locals and foreigners — hostage.
Twenty hostages — nine Italians, seven Japanese, one Indian, one Bangladeshi-born American and two Bangladeshis — were killed in the terror attack at the restaurant.
Besides, two senior police officers — Banani Police Station officer-in-charge Salauddin Ahmed Khan and Detective Branch assistant commissioner Robiul Islam — were killed as they tried to rescue the hostages.
Thirteen people, including three foreigners, were rescued while 20 bodies of the hostages were recovered from the restaurant after a successful operation codenamed ‘Thunderbolt’.
Six of the seven gunmen were killed and one suspected militant was arrested during the drive.
