Success achieved in curbing religious extremists: says IGP

Dhaka – Inspector General of Police AKM Shahidul Hoque said Bangladesh has achieved a visible success by substantially curbing religious extremist groups
“Police have been taken vigorous efforts to roll back any kind of resurface of this socio-global menace,’ he said.
The IGP came up with the remarks while addressing on “curbing terrorism: Bangladesh Perspective” on the inaugural session of 84th Annual General Meeting of Interpol in Rwanda’s capital Kigali on Monday, according to a message received in Dhaka.In his address, the IGP said, fastest investigation, quick trial and exemplary punishment of the miscreants involved in militancy have been ensured as the present government has taken zero tolerance policy to militancy.
So far 27 militants have been sentenced to death. Among them, six top leaders of banned Islamic outfit Jama’tul Mujahidin Bangladesh (JMB) have been hanged, the IGP said.The IGP said that Bangladesh police have been working in curbing terrorism through community policing involving people from all sections of the society.
He stressed on strengthening mutual coordination, coherence of bilateral, regional and multilateral engagement among the member states of Interpol for combating terrorism.
The IGP highlighted socioeconomic condition of Bangladesh and efficiency of Bangladesh police in curbing terrorism as well as its limitations at the opening session of the conference.
Representatives, including police chiefs of 190 member states of Interpol have been participating the 4-day conference. IGP Shahidul Hoque is leading a 5-member Bangladesh delegation in the conference. – News Desk
