The two-day annual election to Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for its 14 executive posts, including president and secretary, has ended peacefully.A total of 3921 lawyers out of 5,028 have cast their votes in out of 5,028 voters.
The counting of votes started from 8.00pm and the unofficial result might be known at midnight after concluding the counting of all votes.
The main contest would take place between the panels of ruling Awami League backed Sammilita Ainjibi Samannaya Parishad (SASP) and BNP-Jamaat backed Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad (JAOP), SCBA sources said.
Awami League presidium member Yusuf Hossain Humayun and Azher Ullah Bhuyan are contesting as candidates for the post of president and secretary from the SASP panel, while former SCBA president Zainul Abedin and incumbent Secretary AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon are the candidates from JAOP for the president and secretary posts.
Other SASP candidates are: Md Taherul Islam and Suria Begum (vice presidents), Ramzan Ali Sikder (treasurer), AKM Rabiul Hassan Sumon and Sheikh Serajul Islam Seraj (assistant secretary), and Cumar Debul Dey, Khan Mohammad Shameem Aziz, Md Abdul Aziz Mia Minto, Md Habibur Rahman Habib, Md Ashraful Islam, Nasreen Siddiqua Lina and Shahana Parvin (members).
JAOP candidates are: Fahima Nasrin Munni and Md Golam Mostafa (vice presidents), Nasreen Akhter (treasurer) Md Shahiduzzaman and Md Yousuf Ali (assistant secretary), and Mamtaj Begum Beauty, Md Kamal Hossain, Md Nasir Uddin Khan Samrat, Nasir Uddin Ahmed Ashim, Nasrin Ferdaus, Rezaul Karim and Sk Tahsin Ali (members).
