AL-backed panel wins Supreme Court Bar election


Awami League-backed Sammilita Ainjibi Samannaya Parishad known as white panel won eight posts, including the president post while BNP-Jamaat-backed lawyers’ body Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Oikya Parishad known as blue panel bagged six posts, including the secretary post in the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) elections.Awami League presidium member Advocate Yusuf Hossain Humayun has been elected as president and BNP joint secretary general Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon as secretary in the polls for 2016-2017 term.

With this, the AL has regained the partial leadership of the SCBA. Earlier, the leadership was in the hand of BNP baked lawyers.

The election in 14 posts of the SCBA was held on Wednesday and Thursday where some 3,921 lawyers out of 5,036 cast their votes. The result was published on Friday.

The other elected candidates are: vice presidents–Fahima Nasrin Munni (blue), Md Taherul Islam (whilte), assistant secretaries general: AKM Rabiul Hasan Suman (while) and Sheikh Sirajul Islam Siraj (white), treasurer Md Ramzan Ali Sikder (white).

The elected executive members are: Khan Mohammad Shamim Aziz (while), Nashreen Siddiqua Nina (white), Md Nasiruddin Khan Samrat (blue), Nasiruddin Ahmed Ashim (blue) Rezaul Karim Reza (blue) MD Abdul Aziz Mia Mintu (white) and Kamal Hossain (blue).
