Suspected militant held for Aug 15 blast


Dhaka 01 Jan – The Counter-terrorism unite detained one militant, Mamun, 21 in a connection to the hotel blast in Dhaka’s Panthapath area on August 15 last year. He allegedly made the bomb and supplied the same for the attack on a mourning rally. Masudur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) gave the information. On Sunday, 31 December Law enforcement forces arrested him from the area house building adjacent to Uttara, sector 7. Counter-terrorism officials along with intelligence wing of Police Headquarters and Bogra police conducted the operation to arrest Mamun on Sunday evening.
In the initial interrogation, police said that Mamun is one of the leaders of new JMB and Shura committee. He was in charge of funding for militant organizations, making explosives, training, and planning abduction attacks.
On August 15, 2017, he made the bomb for attacking mourning rallies. He also carried the bomb to Saiful who killed during anti-militancy operation ‘August bite’ in Olio international hotel, Panthapath. He was hiding in Uttara due to the formation of major sabotage attacks.
Earlier on November 19, in connection with the blast in the Hotel Olio, Police told that a person named Tanvir Yasin Karim was arrested. – Staff Reporter
