Three persons were killed in shootouts with police and the Rapid Action Battalion (Rab), one in Cox’s Bazaar and 2 in the Sunderbans on early Sunday. They have been said to be ‘suspected trafficker’ and alleged ‘robbers’
A suspected trafficker died in Cox’s Bazar in what the police described as a ‘shootout’.
Detective Police OC Dewan Abul Hossain said that the ‘encounter’ occurred early on Sunday at Jaliyapalang Union under Ukhia Upazila.
The dead has been identified as Md Zafar Alam, 38, who hails from Sonarparha area of the Union, he said.
The police was tipped-off on human-traffickers gathering in the area and a raid was conducted around 3am, according to the police officer.
“The shooting erupted when the traffickers opened fire sensing police’s presence. They fled after a while and police found Zafar (Ahmed) with gunshot wounds at the spot.” He died around 9am at the Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, said OC Hossain.
He said a firearm and two rounds of ammunition were recovered from the spot.
On Friday, three persons were killed during a shootout at Cox’s Bazar’s Teknaf Upazila. The police claimed all of them were human-traffickers on a list prepared by the home ministry.
In another incident a shootout in the Sunderbans has left two persons dead and the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) claimed they were robbers. reported, the encounter occurred at the Chandpai Range in Sunderbans early on Sunday, the RAB said.
The dead—Alamgir, 35 and ‘Ripon’, 30— were part of a robbers’ gang called ‘Maijhhya Bahini’, said RAB-8’s Deputy Commander Adnan Kabir.
Nearly 100 rounds of ammunition and 13 firearms were recovered from the spot, he said.
RAB raided the area on tip-off. “Sensing our presence the robbers fired and we retaliated. After a while, the robbers fled and RAB personnel found the two dead on the spot”, said Kabir. –
