Teachers urged for eradicating curable tuberculosis


Speakers at a views-sharing meeting have asked the teachers’ community for motivating the students and common people in creating social awareness to eradicate the curable disease of tuberculosis.
The National Anti-Tuberculosis Association of Bangladesh (NATAB) organised the meeting on ‘Role of Teachers in Launching Social Movement for Preventing Tuberculosis’ on Wednesday at Rangapur Sahittya Parisat auditorium in the city.With district NATAB member and valiant freedom fighter Akbar Hossain in the chair, Consultant of Tazhat Chest Disease Hospital in Rangpur Dr Farhad Alam attended and addressed the meeting as the chief guest.  Medical Officer of the Civil Surgeon Office of Rangpur Dr Ruhul Amin and representatives of the teachers’ community Golam Sajjad Haider and Ahsan Habib addressed the meeting as the special guests.Thirty teachers from different educational institutions participated in the views-sharing meeting.Dr Farhad Alam presented the main keynote paper and elaborately narrated the reasons behind tuberculosis infection, its prevention, treatment process and available cost-free treatment facilities throughout the country.He discussed on symptoms of tuberculosis infection, multi drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB), extremely drug resistant tuberculosis (XDR-TB) and functioning of GeneXpert machine in diagnosing drug resistant tuberculosis and treatment process.He narrated on micro-bacterial tuberculosis (MTB), anti-tuberculosis drug refampicin and examination process of sputum of suspected patients using computerized GeneXpert machine available at Tazhat Chest Disease Hospital laboratory in Rangpur.Dr Ruhul Amin discussed the latest government strategies for controlling tuberculosis and stressed for creating mass social awareness to accelerate detection of tuberculosis patients to bring them under cost-free treatments facilities.The speakers stressed for creating adequate awareness on quick cough test, preventive vaccines and full course intake of essential medicines for eradicating the curable disease of tuberculosis.They suggested the teachers for inspiring the students and common people in motivating the tuberculosis patients to complete the treatment dose without intervals adopting the cost-free Direct Observe Treatment Short Course methods and medicines. -BSS, Rangpur
