A team of country’s puppeteers have left for Thailand to take part in the Thailand Harmony World Puppet Festival 2017. The festival will kick start today and continue till February 26 in Kanchanaburi Province of Thailand. Tomorrow the team comprising ten artistes will present “Okrittogger Shaja” inspired by Bonde Ali Miah’s story “Kormofol.” Another performance to be staged is named “Tuntuni O Nakkata Rajar Golpo” which are inspired by Upakendra Kishore Rai Chowdhury and Jashim Uddin. Two dance dramas will also be presented reflecting on the issues of present times and former times through the dialogues between a grandmother and her grandchild.
Pupils of Jahangirnagar University’s Department of Drama and Dramatics constitute the majority of the visiting troupe. The performances have been planned by Professor of the department Dr Rashid Harun. Ministry of Cultural Affairs, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and Bangladesh Puppet Theatre Research and Development Centre are collaborating to make the tour a success.
