Tempaco factory fire death toll reaches 31

Dhaka – The death toll from the inferno at Tongi packaging factory  has reached 31 with the recovery of two more bodies from the rubble early Monday. The deceased could not be identified immediately, UNB news agency reported.
Rescuers pulled out the two bodies from the wreckage early in the morning, said Fire Service sources.Meanwhile, a team of Bangladesh Army joined the rescue operation on Monday morning. The death toll from the fire that raged through a tobacco packaging factory at Tongi had climbed to 29 with the recovery of four more bodies from the debris on Sunday.
The deputy commissioner of Gazipur SM Alam said the rescue team retrieved the four bodies from the wreckage around 5:45 pm on the day.
Earlier, 24 burnt alive and 50 others sustained burn injured after the fire broke out at ‘Tampaco Foils Ltd’ in Tongi BSCIC Industrial Area in the early hours of Saturday.
Of the injured, Ripon Das, 30, who suffered burn injuries in the fatal fire, succumbed to his injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) in the capital early Sunday.
Ripon who received 90 percent burn injuries breathed his last at the burn unit of DMCH around 5:30 am, said Bacchu Miah, in-charge of DMCH police camp.
The local administration had also made a list of nine names in the missing list based on information taken from their relatives in the morning.
The deadly boiler blast caused the fire at the flexible and tobacco packaging factory in the early hours of Saturday.
The blast of Tampaco Foils Ltd sparked off huge fire around 6 pm on Saturday and led to the collapse of the four-storey factory.
Around 150 workers were in the factory building when the boiler went off but factory owner Syed Md Mokbul Hossain, also an ex-MP of Sylhet-6 constituency, told reporters on Saturday that 75 workers were working in his factory on Friday night.
