Thakurgaon shooting: Home minister vows action ‘as per law’

Dhaka, Feb 14 – Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal has said that the authorities concerned are inquiring the incident of killing three people by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) shooting at Thakurgaon’s Haripur recently.
“No one is above the law. Action will be taken against those, if found guilty after the probe,” he told reporters after attending the celebration of the 24th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Coast Guard yesterday.
During his speech as chief guest, the home minister said that they will provide weather capable ships, drones, maritime patrol aircraft, helicopters and hovercrafts and required modern equipments for the Coast Guard to become the paramilitary force as real guardian of the sea.
“We have initiative to recruit manpower for your (Coast Guard) own force,” he said. At present, the paramilitary force is running by hiring manpower from the Bangladesh Navy.
The home minister was remembering their contribution of providing help to control Rohingya problems in the country’s eastern areas.
Earlier, the home minister wearing awads to 40 personnel of Bangladesh Coast Guard for best performance in their duties.
Secretary of Public Security Division Mostafa kamal Uddin also speech at the function as special guest and said the personnel of the coast guars were maintaining law and order during the country’s national polls on December 30 last year.
“The members of the Coast Guard is also conducting drives against various crimes in the sea and the river to stop piracy and protect Jhatka,” he said.
Of the 40 personnel of Bangladesh Coast Guard, 10 personnel have received prestigious ‘Bangladesh Coast Guard award’, another 10 received ‘president coast guard award’, 10 other personnel also received ‘Bangladesh Coast Guard (service) award’ and other 10 personnel received ‘president coast guard (service) award’ this year for best performance in their duties.
Former Director General (DG) of the force Vice Admiral Aurangzeb Chowdhury , now chief of naval staff, awarded Bangladesh Coast Guard award’ for this year.
After receiving ‘Bangladesh Coast Guard (service) award’, Commander M Riaz Hassan told The Journlists that he received the award for his better performance in his duty of responsibilities.
Commander Riaz, also Chief Inspector and Quality Controller, said that he ensured quality of the purchased items including ships and equipments for the force and he did his job successfully last year. – Staff Reporter
