Triangular sit-in of JU deptts for newly built classrooms

Students and teachers of Environmental Sciences, geological sciences and computer science and engineering department are continued their sit-in programme for the second consecutive day demanding classes in the newly constructed third floor of C.S.E building.Teachers and students of environmental science dept. started sit-in programme on the opposite side of C.S.E building while teachers and students of C.S.E and geological science dept. took position in front of C.S.E dept. from Sunday.
Campus source said, an office order signed by JU register Abu Bakkar Siddique was served to the environmental Science dept. on Sunday morning directing them to shift to the newly constructed third floor of C.S.E building but teachers and students of C.S.E and geological sciences barred them from getting there.
Being barred from the students, teachers and students of environmental science sit-in in the opposite of the C.S.E dept. where students and teachers of C.S.E and geological sciences also took position in front of their dept. demanding cancellation of allotment given to environmental sciences and to allot newly constructed rooms for C.S.E and geological sciences as they also have acute classrooms crisis.
Prof. Khabir Uddin of environmental sciences said, “According to the office orders we came to shift here but students and teachers of other departments barricaded us illegally.”
Prof. Hanif Ali of C.S.E dept. said, “We tried to solve the crisis through discussion but teachers of environmental science refused to meet us.”
The three deptts. have vowed to continue their ongoing sit-in programme to press their demands.
When contacted, Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Farzana Islam said, “Decision will be taken in Tuesday’s syndicate meeting.”
Police were deployed  to avoid any untoward incident on the campus. – JU Correspondent
