Two buses firebombed in Feni as Khaleda sped back to Dhaka


Dhaka – BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia came back to Dhaka last night safely after wrapping up her four-day visit of Ukhiya, Cox Bazar.Miscreants, however, set ablaze two buses by hurling petrol bombs near Mohipal intersection on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway while she was crossing the spot.
The incident took place in the east lane of the highway near Mohipal foot overbridge at about 4:30 pm while Khaleda along with her motorcade heading towards Dhaka was crossing the spot taking west lane of the highway.
The attack was carried out targeting the chairperson’s car but the miscreants missed it, said Shamsuddin Didar, chairperson’s media wing officer.
Locals said unidentified miscreants hurled petrol bombs from unknown locations and fire suddenly broke out on them. Both the buses were plying taking the wrong lane heading towards the intersection.
There were no passengers in the buses and their drivers managed to get down safely, they said.
Nooruddin, a staff of a bus, said some miscreants hurled petrol bombs targetting the buses. Later, fire service rushed to the spot and doused fires.
The numbers of the two buses are Feni Ja-0096 and Feni Kha-14-2832. Khaleda resumed her journey from Chittagong Circuit House at about 2:40 pm.
Earlier on Saturday, Khaleda’s motorcade came under attack at Fatehpur and Lalpur in Feni when she was going to Cox’s Bazar to visit Rohingya refugees.
Khaleda made this visit 10 days after her return from London after taking treatment of her eyes and knees. – Staff Reporter
