Ataur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Nandail Police Station, said the two militants, including Shafiul Islam alias Saiful Islam, 22, son of Abdul Hai of Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur district, were being taken to Kishoreganj by a team of Rab-14 for investigation at night.
As they reached Chandipasha, a group of miscreants hurled bombs and opened fire on the Rab team to snatch the accused, forcing the elite force to retaliate that triggered a gunfight.
Shafiul and the other militants were caught in the line of fire and died on the spot. Three Rab members were also injured in the gunfight. Rab seized two motorcycles, some firearms and bullets from the spot.
Earlier on July 7, the Eid day, three people, including two policemen, were killed and 12 others injured in a bomb attack coupled with an exchange of gunfire after terrorists attacked a temporary police check post near Sholakia Eidgah in Sadar upazila of Kishoreganj.
