Two Jubadal, BCL men killed in internecine Laxmipur fight

Two people were killed and five others injured in a clash over playing a cricket match in Hajipara area of Sadar upazila on Sunday night. The deceased were identified as Abu Noman, vice-president of Chandraganj union unit of Chhatra League and son of Abu Sufian of Bhairabnagar village and Jahangir Alam, a local activist of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal and son of Chowdhury Mia of Panchpara village of the upazila. Police said an altercation took place between two groups over a cricket match organised between Amani Laxmipur village and Basudouhita village of the upazila in the afternoon. As sequel to the altercation, a clash ensued between both the groups at around 8:00pm, where gunshots were fired during the clash, leaving Noman dead on the spot and six sustained bullet injuries. The injured, including Jahangir Alam, Shafique Ullah and Mamun, were rushed to different hospitals in Laxmipur and Noakhali where Jahangir succumbed to his injuries on his way to Noakhali. Iqbal Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, confirmed the incident and said the body of Noman was recovered from the spot and was sent to Sadar hospital morgue for an autopsy. – UNB
