Two of a family killed over land dispute in Rajshahi


Two members of a family were killed and four others injured in a clash over a land-related dispute in Kadirganj area of the city yesterday morning.The deceased were identified as Sadequl Islam, 50, and his sister Akter Jahan Kalpona, 45, of the area.Local people said there had been a longstanding dispute between Sadequl Islam and his brother Tariqul Islam over the ownership of a piece a land.As a sequel to the enmity, an altercation ensued between the family members over the issue on Sunday night.At one stage, Tariqul hit his brother Sadequl and sister Kalpona with crowbar on Monday morning, leaving them dead on the spot.Four other family members – Niamtullah, 24, Jahanara Begum, 45,Manirul Islam, 50, and Umme Kulsum, 20 – were injured as they tried to resist Tariqul.The injured were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).Informed, police recovered the bodies and sent those to RMCH morgue for autopsy.Police also arrested Tariqul.Officer-in-charge of Boalia Model Police Station Alamgir Hossain confirmed the incident.UNB, Rajshahi
