The UK chapter BNP’s vice president  Mujibur Rahman Mujib and his driver have been missing since Sunday on their way from Sunamganj to Sylhet, their family members said.
Mujib, who is also a convening committee member of Sunamganj BNP, set for Sylhet after attending BNP’s mass hunger strike programme on Sunamganj Shaheed Minar premises on Sunday afternoon.
Since then Mujib, 56, and his driver Rezaul Haq Sohel remained untraced along with their car, according to a GD filed by Rabiul Islam, a relative of Mujib.Their mobile phones have been found switched off, according to the complaint filed with Sadar Police Station on Tuesday morning, said Hemayetul Islam, additional superintendent of Sunamganj district police.
Islam said police are seriously looking into the matter.
The two went missing amid growing incidents of abductions and killing in recent months in parts of the country, including the  sensational adductions and murders of seven people in Narayanganj.
Rabiul said Mujib, a British citizen, has been living at his Hajipara residence in Sylhet city without his family since he returned home from the UK around six months back.
Sunamganj District BNP at a press conference on Tuesday said Mujib  started for Sylhet after joining the party’s hunger-strike programme to protest against the government’s alleged repressive acts and ‘growing incidents’ of extrajudicial killings and abductions.
Addressing the press conference, district BNP convener Nasiruddin Chowdhury demanded that the government rescue him unhurt within 48 hours.
He also announced that they will hold a human chain in Sunamganj town on Wednesday protesting the incident. – UNB
