Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal has said underground railroads will be constructed in the capital alongside the metro rail ones.Briefing reporters after the day’s Ecnec meeting at the NEC conference room on Thursday, Mustafa Kamal said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has directed the Planning Commission to prepare a project on underground railway alongside carrying out the ongoing work on metro rail in Dhaka.
The Planning Minister also said they would suggest the Line Ministry to conduct a feasibility study to prepare the project based on its findings.
He said, “Like the Padma Multipurpose Bridge Project, the underground railway project would also be a dream project and this would ease the existing traffic congestion to a great extent.”
Mustafa Kamal said the proposed underground railway project would be implemented alongside the existing metro rail project while the present mode of communication would also continue in the capital.
Asked about the possible funding of the proposed underground rail project, Kamal said visiting World Bank Senior Vice President Kyle Peters has assured him of necessary funding for the project.
