Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said the unity among leaders and parties cannot have any influence on people’s unity.
“Once some 76 political parties forged unity . . . But could it leave any impact on people’s mind?” he told journalists before a meeting with the Pirozpur district Awami league (AL) leaders at party’s central on Bangabandhu Avenue here.
The AL general secretary added: “Whatever unity may be among the leaders and political parties, it won’t influence people now.”
He said they have faith in the countrymen as the public opinion is in favour of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Replying to a query on former chief justice S K SInha’s book titled “A Broken Dream: Rule of Law, Human Rights and Democracy”, Quader said he wrote a fiction being brewed with heartburning.
“Is it necessary to comment on this?” the AL general secretary questioned, adding, “When someone loses power, he is grabbed by heartburning.”
The minister said, “If he is speaking the truth right now, then why didn’t he say it as the chief justice? Why didn’t he go to the public and highlight the fact?”
Answering another question, Quader said the UN secretary general did not invite BNP representatives, as claimed by the party, to its office. “It is now clear like daylight,” he said, adding BNP is spreading falsehood with the invitation.
