The American Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) will assist local investigators to unearth the motive and the real culprits behind the sensational killing of blogger Niladri Chaterjee alias Niloy.
Blogger Niloy, a resident of a rented flat on the 4th floor of a multi-storied building at Goran in the capital, was hacked to death by a group of assailants on Friday afternoon. Ashamoni, wife of the victim, filed the case against four unidentified people with Khilgaon Police Station in this connection on Friday night.
Sources at the Detective Branch of DMP said, a FBI official already contacted a senior DB official on Saturday morning over phone expressing their keen interest to help local investigators in connection with the blogger Niloy killing.
Contacted, Deputy Commissioner (DB-East) Mahbubur Rahman admitted that the FBI offered them help the investigation into the blogger murder. After consulting with our higher authorities, we already have given them consent to assist us in the investigation, he said.
An FBI team is scheduled to come to DB headquarters on Sunday morning. We will have in a meeting with them to discuss technical and technological supports to unearth the mystery of the killing, the DC (DB-South) said.
Earlier, the FBI assisted the DB invesrtigation in connection with blogger Avijit Roy killing. Avijit Roy, son of noted physicist Ajoy Roy and founder of Mukto-Mona blog, was killed and his wife Rafida Afrin Banya injured seriously as unidentified criminals stabbed them near TSC on the Dhaka University campus on February 26 this year.
A 3-member committee has been formed to inquiry into the reported allegation that police denied to register GD when the slained blogger Niladri Chaterjee alias Niloy went to police station in last May.
The committee was formed on Saturday headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Motijheel Division Tareq Bin Rashid. Other members of the committee are– Assistant Commissioner (AC) Md Nur Alam and AC Kazi Farid Hossain.
Blogger Niloy, who was killed by unidentified miscreants inside his own flat at Guran in the city on Friday, posted a status on May 15 last through his Facebook account where he mentioned that two unidentified people were following him when he was returning home by a human hauler (tempo). Though he went to a police station to register a general diary in this connection, the police station concerned declined to register the GD.
But he did not mention the names of police stations where he was denied to register the GD.
Contacted, Deputy Commissioner (Motijheel Division) of DMP Anwar Hossain said the committee was formed based on media report that blogger Niloy was denied to register GD.
The Committee will find out which police station denied Niloy to register the GD. Legal action will be taken if any one found negligence of duty in this connection, the DC (Motijheel) said.

Meanwhile, the body of slain blogger Niladri Chaterjee alias Niloy was handed over to his family members after completion of his post-mortem report at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) morgue on Saturday.
Bimol Chaterjee, an uncle of the victim, received the body from the DMCh morgue at about 12:30 pm. They body has been taken to his native village in Pirojpur district.
Niloy was only son of his parents—father Tarapad Chaterjee and mother Aurpona Chaterjee.
Talking to reporters at DMCH, Prof Habibuzzaman Chowdhury, head of forensic department of the hospital, said 14 marks of injuries, including eight severe marks of injuries, due to hits by sharp weapons were found on different parts of his body. He died due the hits, he said.
Miscreants indiscriminately hit him by sharp weapons to confirm his death, Prof Habibuzzaman added.
