Veteran journalist Rakib Uddin passes away

Dhaka, Feb 3 – Veteran journalist Sheikh Rakib Uddin today passed away at a city hospital due to old age complications. He was 85.
Rakib Uddin, a senior journalist of The Independent, breathed his last at the BIRDEM Hospital at 5:30 am, according to a JPC press release issued here.He left behind his wife, a son, a daughter and host of relatives and admirers to mourn his death.
A permanent member of the Jatiya Press Club (JPC) Rakib Uddin was laid to his eternal rest at Azimpur graveyard following his namaj-e-janaza at the JPC and Quarter Mosque at Elephant Road in the city.
He made his debut in the profession in now defunct Daily Azad where he subsequently served as the chief reporter. Later he worked for the United News of Bangladesh (UNB) as diplomatic correspondent for some years before joining The Independent from where he retired.
JPC President Muhammad Shafiqur Rahman and General Secretary Farida Yasmin issued a statement expressing their profound shock at his death. They prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
The Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB) has expressed deep shock at the sad demise of Sheikh Rakib Uddin, founder vice president of DCAB.
DCAB President Rezaul Karim Lotus and its secretary general Mahfuzur Rahman Mishu, in a condolence message on Saturday, conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members and sought salvation of the departed soul.
The DCAB with deep respect recalls the valuable contributions he made towards DCAB, it said. – Agencies
