Warrant against complainant of the case accusing Shahadat

Dhaka-A court of Dhaka on Tuesday issued warrants for the arrest of the complainant and victim of the case filed against cricketer Shahadat Hossain and his wife Nitya on the charge of torturing their domestic help. Judge Tanzina Islam of Dhaka’s Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5, issued the warrants for the arrest of complainant Khandaker Mozammel Haque and victim Mahfuza Akter Happy as both of them did not appear to the on five occasions. The Public Prosecutor of the tribunal, Ali Asgar Shwapan said, for their absence the court could not record their depositions in the case. However, accused Shahadat and his Nitya were present at the courtroom.
On September 6, 2014, injured Mahfuza Akhter Happy, 11, the domestic help of Shahadat’s family, was found lying on a road in Sangbadik Colony area of Pallabi in the city. Happy, then, claimed that Shahdat and his wife tortured her and the couple went into hiding.
The following day, journalist, Khandakar Mozammel Haque, filed the case against Shahadat and his wife Nitya with Mirpur Model Police Station under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act 2000.
Later, on December 29, last year, Mirpur Model Police Station Inspector M Shafiqur
Rahman and also the Investigation Officer of the case, submitted the chargesheet of the case to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka against the two accused.
On January 12, this year, the case was transferred to Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 from the CMM court. Later, the tribunal framed charges against Shahadat and Nitya on February 22.-Court Correspondent
