Dhaka  – Afghanistan allrounder Mohammad Nabi produced a fierce bowling display enabled Chittagong Vikings to get an auspicious start in the 4th edition of AKS Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) beating defending champions Comilla Victorians by 29 runs in the opening match held on Tuesday at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium at Mirpur. Chasing a winning target of 162 runs set by Chittagong Vikings, Comilla Victorians found the chase very stiff in the face of tight bowling attacks by Chittagong Vikings bowlers and finally they were restricted at 132 for 8 in 20 overs.Comilla Victorians faced early batting jolt as they lost their top four batsmen — opener Imrul Kayes (6) Marlon Samuels (23) Liton Das (13) and Ashar Zaidi (2) — backed to the pavilion inside 58 runs, leaving Victorians in a deep trouble. After the initial damage the Victorians could not came back in to the match losing wickets in regular intervals.Second down Nazmul Hossain Shanto, however, offered some resistance with a fighting unbeaten 52 runs, but it merely reduced the gap of their defeat margin.Mohammad Nabi was the most successful bowler for Chittagong Vikings picking up four wickets for 24 runs. He was later named the player of the match.Earlier, brilliant half century from Chittagong Vikings skipper Tamim Iqbal and blistering cameo knock by Shoaib Malik helped Chittagong Vikings to score a challenging total of 161 for 3 from stipulated 20 overs against Comilla Victorians, after their captain Mashrafe Mortaza won the toss and put Chittagong to bat first.Tamim hammered 54 from 38 hitting six fours and two towering sixes while Shoaib was unbeaten on 42 from 28 balls. His breezy innings contained two fours and two hits over the fence.Imad Wasim of Comilla was only wicket-taker for his side today. He claimed the wicket of Dwayne Smith conceding 22 runs in four overs.BSS
