Women achieve self-reliance in Jamalpur


A good number of women of rural and urban areas of the district achieved self-reliance after getting training from the Department of Youth Development.The women have taken short and long-term training on tailoring from the department. In the last two years about 170 women of the district have involved themselves with the business after getting training.The women also have been playing important role in alleviating poverty and changing rural economy through the income generating activity during the past few years in the district.Afsana, wife of Sajjad Hossain at Jangalpara village under Sadar upazila established a tailoring shop at his house and became self reliant. She earned Taka 400 to 500 per day after making ladies dresses.“I received three months training from the Department of Youth Development and setting my business,” she said.Roksana, another self reliant woman of Char Polisha village in Melandah upazila earned Taka 300 to 400 per day from her tailoring shop.After death of her husband she took training on dress making from the department and started the work at her home. With her two children she is now happy with the business to run her family.Jesmin Alam, wife of Samsul Alam of Nayanagar village under Melandah upazila of the district has also become self reliant after getting training from the department.She has set up four sewing machines at her tailoring shop and earned Taka 700 to 800 per day from the establishment.Like them, Tahmina Sultana, Roksana, Suratul Jannat, Aklima Akhtar, Sadia Akhtar, Sania Khatun and Susmita Jahan opened their small businesses and have become self-reliant.Junior Instructor (Dress Making) of the department Shamima Begum said, we provided training on dress making in three batches and each batch containing 30 women.After training they also continue to contact us for further counseling on their business, she added. -BSS, Jamalpur
