A day-long awareness workshop on electronic government procurement (e-GP) was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room today.Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) of the Ministry of Planning organised the workshop. Deputy Commissioner of Thakurgaon Mukesh Chandra Biswas presided over the workshop.
Director of CPTU Aziz Taher Khan, Programme coordinator Mamun Rahman, Assistant Director Badal Rahman and Chief Executive officer of Thakurgaon Zila Parishad Abu Taher Md. Masud Rana addressed the workshop.The speakers said that at present in Bangladesh the amount of government purchase is 78 crores of taka where the misuse is equivalent to 1.5 per cent of the GDP. But in e-tendering the misuse would come down and corruption in tendering process would also come down to a considerable extent.The speakers observed that if e-tendering is introduced in all the department of the government the quality of tendering would improve, transparency and liability would also be improved a lot and scope of business would be extended for the computer literate common people.A total of 40 participants including Engineers of different departments, Contractors, Bankers and others took part in the workshop.(BSS)
