This year’s theme for the day is “Housing Policies: Affordable Homes” to promote sustainable development policies that ensure adequate shelter for all. President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have issued separate messages marking the day.
President Abdul Hamid said housing is a basic right of human and the government is working to ensure secure houses for all citizens.
Along with the government, the role of private investors is also very important in providing safe, affordable homes to people, he said.
The housing projects should be built considering the country’ geological conditions, position, natural calamities, the president suggested.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said her incumbent government has taken several steps to provide safe and affordable housing for all over the last seven years.
“We are dedicated to ensuring well-planned housing for all. Already we had formed National Housing Policy 2016 and built flats for lower wages people,” she said.
The premise of World Habitat Day is to reflect on the state of our towns and cities and the basic right of all to adequate shelter. It is also intended to remind the world of its collective responsibility towards the future of the human habitat.
