World Rivers Day Sunday


25th September is the World Rivers Day. This was initiated by a river loving environmentalist of Canada in the 90’s decade and eventually it was endorsed by the UNO and Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA) took it up 4 years back. This year for the first time, the governmental organization Jatyo Nadi Rakkha Commission (JNRC) has decided to observe it.This year BAPA is observing the day through two events at Dhaka and the several BAPA branches are doing the same at local levels. The first BAPA event has been taken up jointly with 23 other organizations on today (24th Sept) which is going to be a “Rally for the Rivers” from the Bahadur Shah Park to Sadarghat. fter a short gathering at the said park, the procession will start with festoons and banners.
The second event of BAPA, Peoples SAARC Water Forum Bangladesh and Jatyo Nadi Rakkha Andolon are going to jointly organize a Citizens Gathering on tomorrow the 25th September 2016, Sunday at 10 am in front of the National Press Club, Topkhana Road, Dhaka. The thematic demand of the programs will be: “Two Dangerous Threats for Rivers of Bangladesh – Indian River Linking Project (IRLP) and Bangladesh Delta Plan 2100; Stop these Projects immediately, Save our rivers and the country.” – News Desk
