Worsening Rohingya crisis BD’s diplomatic failure: BNP

Dhaka – The opposition BNP on Friday alleged that the present government has been failed to bring neighbouring leading nations and the United Nations together in resolving the Rohingya crisis.“Indeed, Rohingya situation was turning serious due to the government’s diplomatic failure. Thus, an open discussion at the United Nations Security Council on Rohingya issue ended without any specific decision or resolution on Thursday,” said BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at a press briefing at party central office.
He further said the government also failed to bring all neighbouring and influential countries and United Nations to its side despite subhuman lives of Rohingyas in refugee camps.
The BNP leader termed China and Russia as friendly countries of Bangladesh and said the government should have discussed with the two powerful countries to stop atrocities of Myanmar authorities and its army against Rohingyas in Rakhaine state.
Describing diplomatic failure of the government the key reason for the Rohingya problem not resolving, he alleged that the government did not take any such initiative to resolve the crises.
China and Russia reportedly took stands in favour of Myanmar in Thursday’s UNSC meeting.
Rizvi alleged that despite the whole world was vocal about Rohingya issue the role of the incumbent government was ‘submissive’.
He also accused the government of failing to take powerful neighbouring countries and the UN besides it in the wake of indiscriminate genocide against Rohingyas and repression in Rakhine as tens of thousands of Rohingyas taking shelter in Bangladesh are passing an inhumane life.
He warned that the Rohingya crisis will reach in an acute level following the diplomatic failure.
The BNP leader alleged that the government has adopted ‘one-sided policy’ without responding to BNP’s call for forging national unity to deal with the Rohingya crisis.
He expressed surprise at the conclusion of UN Security Council debate on Rohingya crisis without any specific decision and resolution.
