Writ seeks probe on failure to rescue Jihad alive from well

A writ petition was filed with the High Court on Sunday seeking its order to form a high-level committee to investigate the failure of government organisations in rescuing minor boy Jihad alive from inside the pipe of a water pump at Shahjahanpur in the capital.
Barrister Syed Mayeenul Huq submitted the public interest litigation (PIL) writ petition with the section concerned.Another organisation, Children Charity Bangladesh Foundation (CCBF), filed a writ petition seeking a court direction to pay compensation amounting TK 30 llakh for the victim’s family.
Barrister A Halim who filed the writ on behalf of the CCBF told reporters that the petitioner also sought a court order to officially recognise the young volunteers who retrieved Jihad’s body.
Meanwhile, a legal notice was served to the government for bringing to justice within 20 hours those responsible for the death of Jihad.
Jihad, son of Nasir Uddin of the Shahjanpur railway colony, slipped into the deep pipe around 4:30 pm on Friday while playing near the abandoned pump house and rescued dead after 23 hours on Saturday. – UNB
