Zia Charitable trust graft case, ACC deposition has been recorded

The Special Judge Court-3 of Dhaka on Thursday completed recording the depositions of Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Harun-ur-Rashid in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case and fixed January 14 for his cross-examination. He is also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case.Judge Abu Ahmed Jomadar of the makeshift court, set on Alia Madrasa premises at Bakshibazar in the city passed the order. Meanwhile, Begum Khaleda Zia could not appear in the court due to her illness. Her lawyer Sanaullah Mia informed the court about her illness and appeared to the court on her behalf. The court granted the time petition.

On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia for abusing power in raising funds of the trust amounting to Tk 3,15,43,000 from unknown sources. ACC Deputy Director, Harun, the IO of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the court on January 16, 2012.

Other three accused persons are Harris Chowdhury, Ziaul Islam Munna, Assistant Private Secretary (APS) to Harris, and Monirul Islam Khan, APS to Sadeque Hossain Khoka, mayor of the erstwhile combined Dhaka City Corporation.

Besides, the ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008, with Ramna Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her son Tareque Rahman and four others for embezzling over Tk 2.10 crore which came came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.
