The Special Judge Court-3 of Dhaka on Thursday fixed January 7, 2016 for hearing in Zia Charitable Trust graft case filed against four people including Begum Khaleda Zia.On Thursday, Anti Corruption Commission Deputy Director and also the Investigation Officer of the case, Harun-ur-Rashid testified in the case. As his testimony has not been completed on the day, Judge Abu Ahmed Jomadar of the makeshift court set up on Alia Madrasa premises at Bakshibazar in the city passed the order fixing the next date.
Earlier, BNP Chief Khaleda Zia’s counsels cross-examined Metro-makers and Development Limited Senior Manager Rashid Zaman. On the other hand, Khaleda Zia could appear in the court due to her illness. Advocates Sanaullah Mia, Joinal Abedin Mesba and Taherul Islam appeared to the court on her behalf.
On August 8, 2011, the ACC filed the case with Tejgaon Police Station accusing four people, including Khaleda Zia for abusing power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources. ACC Deputy Director Harun, who is the Investigation Officer of the case, submitted the charge sheet of the case to the court on January 16, 2012.
Besides, the ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna Model Police Station accusing Khaleda Zia, her son Tareque Rahaman and four others for misappropriating over Tk 2.10 crore which came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.
