8 put on remand again over RU teacher murder

A court in Rajshahi on Monday placed eight people on a fresh one-day remand  in connection with the murder of Rajshahi University teacher Prof AKM Shafiul Islam.
Magistrate of the Rajshahi Metropolitan Magistrate Court-3 Sharmin Akhter passed the order when police produced them before her court following their two-day remand.Those remanded afresh are Humayun Kabir, principal of Islamia College of Binodpur,  Fazlul Haq, a teacher of the same college, Mosharraf Hossain, a village doctor of Chouddapai area, Jinnat Ali, Saifuddin, Rezaul Karim, Sagar and Arif.
Earlier, on November 19, the same court placed 11 people on a two-day remand in connection with the murder.
Police arrested 20 people after the killing of Prof Shafiul Islam on November 16. Of them, 11 people were shown arrested by police and sent to jail on November 17.
RU Registrar Eltajul Haq filed a case with Motihar Police Station after the murder of Prof AKM Shafiul Islam.
Sociology Department teacher Prof Shafiul Islam was stabbed by some unknown assailants on his way home at Chouddapai near the RU campus on November 15. He succumbed to his injures at the Intensive Care Unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital half an hour later.
Meanwhile, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested six people, including a former Jubo Dal leader, on Sunday in connection with the killing. – UNB
