Anti-militancy motivation programme urged

Anti-Terrorism and Militancy Ulema Parishad has demanded the government of launching motivational programme by Islamic scholars to stop militancy in the country.
Maulana Abdul Latif Chowdhury, convener of the organization, made the demand at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity on Saturday.He said to make people aware about the truth of religion, motivation programme ulema mashayekh side by side the continuous efforts taken by law enforcers is needed to stop terrorism and militancy.
“Jihad and militancy are not the same thing. There is no relationship of Islam with militancy,” he said, adding that it is not enough to conduct actions and expeditions against the militants only.
“Awareness among the people is also necessary to stop such terrorist activities,” he said.
In a written statement Latif Chowdhury alleged that thousands of Ulema-Mashayekh and madrasha students have been oppressed under the false trick.
He alleged that a section of political leaders, media and civil society people are misinterpreting the Madrasa education and the Islamic scholars which may bring more tyranny on them in the days ahead.
Chowdhury mentioned that they organization had sent a proposal to the Prime Minister in this regard on September 11. – Staff Reporter
