Bangladesh post second highest total against West Indies


Dhaka – Bangladesh can brim with confidence after posting a mammoth 508 on the scoreboard in the first innings of the second and final Test of the two-match series against West Indies in Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium here on Saturday.Mahmudullah inspired his team in the process, smashing his second Test hundred (136) in three weeks-his third Test-ton overall. The right-handed batsman narrowly escaped a run-out at 98. He reached the three-figure mark in 203 balls while sending a Roston Chase delivery to the rope through point. Mahmdullah was the last man out for Bangladesh.

Earlier, Shadman Islam, Shakib Al Hasan and Liton Das also struck the fifties for the Tigers.

Shadman justified his inclusion to the side registering a fifty on debut. He was out for 76. The southpaw of Chattogram also scored a half century for BCB XI in the practice match against the same opponent in Chattogram.

Shakib was not up to the mark in the series opener as he returned with 34 and one in two innings of the match. This time around, however, he hit his 24th Test-fifty and stretched it to a significant 80 to help Bangladesh to have solid first innings total.

Liton Das, who was not the part of the team initially, struck his fourth Test-fifty off 50-balls. This is his first fifty in 11 innings. The right-handed batsman got the comeback call as backup wicket-keeper due to an injury of Mushfiqur Rahim.

Bangladesh added 249 to their first-day tally in last five wickets. The score is Bangladesh’s second-highest total against the West Indies. Their highest total against the Caribbeans remains 556 that they gathered in 2012 in the same venue.

Bangladesh lost seven of their 10 wickets to spinners. While Jomel Warrican, Devendra Bishoo and Kraigg Braithwaite shared two-wickets each, Roston Chase took one.UNB
