Dhaka-The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka on Thursday deferred the submission of probe report in a case filed against Begum Khaleda Zia and her party’s Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy to August 9.Magistrate Abdullah Al Masud shifted the date as the Investigation Officer of the case did not submit the report on Thursday.
The case docket says, on January 5, this year, Jananetri Parishad President AB Siddiqui filed the case with the CMM Court against the two for questioning about the number of martyrs in the Liberation War of 1971. Later, the court directed the Officer-in-Charge of Shahbagh Police Station to submit the probe report after investigation.
The case record says that on December 21, last year, while addressing a discussion meeting at the Institute of Engineers, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia said, there is controversy about the number of martyrs in the liberation war. “He (Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman) did not want independence, he wanted to become the Prime Minister of Pakistan. If Zia did not declare independence, there would not be any liberation war,” she added. On the other hand, Gayeshar made similar comments about the martyred intellectuals of liberation war.-Court Correspondent
