Case over throwing Polytechnic principal into Rajshahi pond

A case has been filed against 50 people over throwing the principal of Rajshahi Polytechnic Institute into a pond on the campus by a group of ‘Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists’.

Principal Farid Uddin Ahmed filed the case with Chandrima Police Station around 9pm on Saturday, said its officer-in-charge Sheikh Mohammad Golam Mostafa.

The accused include joint general secretary of the institute unit of BCL Kamal Hossain Sourav, Murad, Shanta, Bony, Hasibul Hossain Shanta, Salman Tony, Habibul and Maruf.

A group of ‘BCL activists’ threw their principal into the pond on the campus on Saturday afternoon for his refusal to allow two students to fill up forms for examination for inadequate class attendance.

The incident was captured in a surveillance camera.

Meanwhile, teachers of the institute announced to go on a work abstention from Sunday if the offenders involved in the incident were not arrested by Saturday night.

Contacted, Principal Farid Uddin said, “Those involved in incident are leaders and activists of BCL and they did it in a bid to kill me.”

Meanwhile, Rajshahi city unit BCL condemned the incident.

In a press release, Rocky Kumar Ghosh and Mahmud Hasan Rajib, president and general secretary of the unit, said a six-member committee was formed to look into the incident and the committee was asked to submit its report within three working days.
