Chhatra Dal will run their own show: Mirza Fakhrul

Dhaka, Sept 13 – BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir claimed that BNP is not involved in holding the central council of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), the student front of the party.“Chhatra Dal leaders are talking about Chhatra Dal affairs. They will take a decision as it is their business. We, the BNP is not involved in it,” he said after a meeting of senior leaders with senior lawyers at BNP chairperson’s political office in Gulshan last night.
He termed issuance injunction on holding JCD council unprecedented one saying that whatever the JCD has so far done, they have done legally.
“The decision over JCD has been taken by party acting chairman exercising his power bestowed by our constitution. It is totally legal. Whatever is done so far has been legal,” he said.
Replying to a question, he said as they were show caused by the court, they would submit their reply in time.
“The JCD will take its decision on its own. Those are entrusted responsibility they would speak you (journalists) about their council,” he said.
The JCD was supposed to hold its central council today (Saturday) to elect its new president and general secretary through secret ballots.
The JCD had taken all preparation to hold the council and the councillors were being distributed their councillor cards on Thursday.
In the meantime, a Dhaka court on Thursday imposed an ad-interim injunction on holding the JCD council upon a petition filed by a former JCD leader.
The court also issued show-cause notices to 10 BNP leaders including party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Khairul Kabir Khokan to explain as to why the council won’t be annulled.
Mirza Alamgir questioned the issuance of injunction secretly in the night saying that the process itself was mysterious.
“It is understood that there is direct interference of the government in it. And the injunction was issued due to interference of the government,” he claimed.
It is regretful that they (Government) is using the court which cannot be good for any democratic country and future of the nation…They do not want even existence a minimum environment of democracy in the country,” he added.
BNP leaders Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar, Mirza Abbas, Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Nazrul Islam Khan and Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, among others were present at the meeting.
Among the lawyers, Joynal Abedin, AJ Mohammed Ali, Nitay Roy Chowdhury, Mahbub Uddin Khokan and Masud Ahmed Talukder joined the hour-long meeting.—Staff Reporter
