Clinic vandalised over patient’s death in Magura

Incensed at the death of a female patient for alleged wrong operation, her relatives
vandalised a private clinic in Magura town on Friday.
Locals said Banani, 20, wife of Tofazzel Hossain of Ghullia village in Mahammadpur
upazila, was admitted to Sagorika Clinic on Thursday and gave birth to a child through a
caesarean section the same night.
But she later died the next morning; and the reason was cited anonymously by a few staff
to be mishandling of the operation.
Outraged by the incident, the relatives of the victim vandalised the clinic, which was later
confirmed to have been running without any authorisation for long.
Sensing danger, the manager of the clinic then settled the matter through a local
influential person reportedly by giving him Tk15,000.
When contacted, Tofazzal Hossain said he would take legal actions against those
responsible of the clinic after the funeral of his wife.
The doctor who performed the operation and the clinic manager later went into hiding. –
