Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) hosted its first-ever stand-up comedy show on Friday, offering a humorous take on contemporary social and political issues.

The comedy event, titled 'Joke er Rajneeti', was organized by the Department of Drama and Film and took place at the Academy's Experimental Theatre Hall in the evening.

Comedians Akhlaq Siddiqui, Shawon Majumder, Syed Ridwan Hasan, Mehedi Hasan Toru, and Sami Doha delivered performances that captivated the audience with their witty jokes.

At the event's inauguration, BSA Director General Dr. Syed Jamil Ahmed emphasized the academy’s commitment to engaging the public. "We aim to create a people-friendly environment and bring cultural programs to not just Dhaka, but also to districts across the country," he said. He also highlighted initiatives like photography training for garment workers, concerts, band shows, Jatra festivals, and sculpture exhibitions, many of which had not been held in the past 15 years.

In a significant announcement, Dr. Ahmed revealed new names for the academy's venues: the Experimental Theater Hall will be renamed Selim Al Din Theatre, the Studio Theater Hall will be renamed Chandrabati Theatre, and the National Theater Auditorium will be called Kobi Alaol Theatre. The Experimental Theater Hall will officially reopen for drama performances on December 28, 2024.

The academy will host the second episode of Stand Up Bangladesh on December 27 at 7 PM, featuring the Buno Payra troupe, with a focus on social and political humor at the Experimental Theatre Hall.
