Cup Golf Open: Siddikur advances to 4th slot

Dhaka – Bangladesh premier golfer and two Asian Tour winner Siddikur Rahman (68) shared the 4th place with Japan’s Mikumu Horikawa (67) and India’s Viraj Madappa (66) scoring eight-under-par matching 134 after the 2nd round matches of the Bangabandhu Cup Golf Open’2019 at the Kurmitola Golf Course here on Thursday.

Thai star golfer Sadom Kaewkanjana dominated the meet carding 15-under-par (65, 62) 127.

The position of other Bangladeshi players after the 2nd round: Akbar Hossain (7th), Mohammad Nazim and Sajib Ali (11th each), Jamal Hossain Mollah (22nd) and Mohammad Sayum Muaj Mohammad (29th each).

The 20-year-old Thai golfer, who came through the Asian Tour Qualifying School Tournament 2018 in December, seized the halfway lead after carding his personal-best round of a nine-under-par 62 to storm to the top of the leaderboard in the 2nd round.

He fired an eagle and eight birdies against a bogey to grab a three-shot lead with his 15-under-par 127 total.

After the 2nd round, Siddkur said, “It was another good round, except for the last hole. I made a silly bogey there. But I have no complaints. I am happy to shoot eight-under for the first two days here. I am happy with the way I played. Making putts will be the key to score this week. I wish to keep the same rhythm, nothing changes. I am hoping for the best. Hopefully I can keep up with my fitness for the next two days.”

A total of 70 players, including a record number of 12 local professionals, survived the halfway cut set at one-over-par 143 in the tourney that has been named in honour of Father of the Nation of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

It was the fifth edition of this tournament since 2015 organised by Bangladesh Golf Federation.UNB
