Dengue in BD shows upward trend again just before winter

The number of dengue patients admitted to hospitals across the country has seen an upward trend in the last few days. According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) control room, a total of 263 dengue patients have been admitted to hospitals across the country in the last 24 hours.
A total of 248 patients were admitted on Tuesday while the number on Monday was 251.
Of the fresh admission, at least 89 patients were admitted to hospitals in the capital and 174 patients to hospitals outside the capital since yesterday.
“The number of recorded dengue patients has increased gradually due to intermittent rain over the last few days. Hopefully, the numbers will come down,” said Dr Ayesha Akhter, in charge of the disease control room at DGHS.
She said the DGHS has analysed 171 out of 248 cases of death so far this year and confirmed that 107 deaths were caused by dengue.
The disease was first detected in the country back in 2000, when at least 93 people died.
The DGHS control room announced in a press release yesterday that at least 963 patients were undergoing treatment for dengue in government and private hospitals across the country.
A total of 404 patients are currently being cared for at 41 government and private hospitals in the capital. The remaining 559 patients are getting medical care outside Dhaka.
As of today, the number of recorded dengue patients this year has hit 95,883. Of them, at least 52,636 were hospitalised in August alone. Nevertheless, 94,672 dengue patients were discharged from hospital this year following their successful recovery.
About 98.7 per cent of dengue patients have been released from hospital after treatment this year, health officials said. – Staff Reporter
