Barcelona powered into the Champions League quarter-finals with a dominant 7-2 victory over Newcastle United at Camp Nou on Wednesday, completing an emphatic 8-3 aggregate win in a thrilling round-of-16 clash.

Raphinha set the tone early, finishing off a swift counter-attack led by Fermin López in the sixth minute. Newcastle responded quickly, with Anthony Elanga equalising nine minutes later from Lewis Hall’s cross.

Marc Bernal restored Barcelona’s lead with a composed finish from a Raphinha free-kick, but Elanga struck again in the 28th minute after Lamine Yamal failed to clear, keeping the visitors in contention.

Yamal redeemed himself deep into first-half stoppage time, calmly converting a penalty after VAR spotted Kieran Trippier’s foul on Raphinha, giving Barcelona a 3-2 lead at the break.

The hosts then took complete control in the second half. Fermin added a fourth in the 52nd minute before Robert Lewandowski struck twice in quick succession — first with a powerful header from a corner, then finishing off a precise through ball from Yamal.

Raphinha capped the rout in the 73rd minute following a costly mistake by Jacob Ramsey, sealing a memorable night for the Catalan side.

Barcelona will now face either Atletico Madrid or Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-finals.
